Animation Masters 2020: 4 talks by 4 internationally renowned filmmakers in March

March is marching swiftly towards us, and so it’s time to announce this year’s Animation Masters talks! We’re very pleased that we got confirmations from all four of our wishlist for this year, and we think you’ll be as excited as we are to hear them!

All talks take place from 17:30 – 19:00 in the Cinema REX in the ground floor of building 745 of the HSLU complex in Emmenbrücke.

March 4th / Mauro Carraro (CH)
Mauro, a skilled draughtsman who works with CGI in a visually artistic style, is probably best known in Switzerland for his film “Aubade” based on lake Geneva’s stunning views, as well as his travel diary “Hasta Santiago”. His last film “59 secondes” has already won more awards than we can mention here, so let us just say that it is a must-see for all Swiss animators!

March 11th / Tomasz Popakul (PL)
Anyone who visited an animation festival in 2013 probably saw Popakul’s first polarising film “Ziegenort” in multiple categories. Now his new film “Acid Rain” is making waves and pushing the visual and narrative boundaries of CGI animation. What a trip…

March 18th / Nienke Deutz (NL)
Nienke’s film “Bloeistraat 11” has had an incredible festival year. In a surprising mix of stop-motion and 2D she tells a touching and delicate coming-of-age-story, leaving the viewers time and space to dive into the atmosphere of those summer days and the feelings of children at the cusp of adulthood.

March 25th/ Martina Scarpelli (DK)
Her visually challenging and at times disturbingly dark film “Egg” has won more than 40 international awards so far. It was produced Lana Tankosa Nikolic who you know from the Animation Workshop, Viborg – where Martina also has her workbase. We’re thrilled that she will be joining us to talk about her personal and artistic process in animation filmmaking.
